So last weekend my blog turned 5 ! And actually I wouldn’t even have realized it, didn’t I flip through my archives last week way back to the first post. Anyway, so I was in Berlin for the weekend doing some sight-seeing in our lovely capital and stopped by for a quick hello at Martin’s Berlin Riesling Cup 2010 event which was just going on.

And what luck, I just arrived at the right time participating for 2 flights that contained the top 3 wines of the evening! Happy Birthday to me I thought when I left, and thanks of course to Martin who’s probably the most relaxed wine lover I know.

Last week a few friends and I took the train for Nierstein for the good reason of attending the so called Winzerfest which is being held there. What insiders and the handful of readers of this blog already know: Nierstein is a small wine village just next to the fantastic Roter Hang vineyard and is a home to a few up and coming estates of Germany. So attending a Wine Fest there cannot be such a bad idea! Here are some impressions!

2006 Terrassen Riesling, Weingut Loimer, Kamptal

Der 2006er Terrassen Riesling, den ich schon merhmals im Glas hatte zeigt jetzt Reife. Ob er gar seinen Höhepunkt schon überschritten hat? Ein intensiver Ton der etwas Richtung Petrol neigt dominiert das Bild. Hintenraus fängt eine leichte Bitterkeit an sich zu zeigen: wird sie etwa in Zukunft das Zepter übernehmen? Die Aromenvielfalt und -Tiefe scheint mir geringer zu werden. Ein schöne, fast salzige Mineralik ist aber immer noch vorhanden. Read the rest of this entry »

Immer wieder bin ich fasziniert ob der geschmacklichen und stilistischen vielseitigkeit des Rieslings, diesmal erfahren am 2006er Pettenthal GG von Kühling Gillot den ich seit über einem Jahr nicht mehr im Glas hatte. Als einen maskulinen Riesling mit herben und würzigen Aromen nebst der Frucht hatte ich ihn im Gedächtnis. Read the rest of this entry »

Immer wieder gibt es vom VDP diese tollen Jahrgangspräsentationen. Immer wieder ist es schön die Weine von vielen Weingüter direkt vergleichen zu können und mit den Machern ins Gespräch zu kommen. Bei dieser vielversprechenden Präsentation ging es um die 3 Regionen Ahr, Nahe und Rheinhessen und es gab viele gute Weine. Hier nun ein paar von meinen Eindrücken. A week ago I spontaneously decided to hurry to Berlin on Sunday for attending the “Gala Grosser Weine”, a wine presentation organized by a local wine store where many top German and international winemakers were presenting their products. It was a great event! Out of the German winemakers I already knew many and previously tried their wines at more close by presentations and thus the core attractions to me were big international names like Giacosa, Château Canon, Ridge, Moric or even Château La Nerthe.
