Gibt es überhaupt irgendeinen Wein von Alvaro Palacios, der nicht mit Parker-Punkten oder sonstigen Huldigungen überschüttet wurde? Kann man diesen ganzen Bewertungen überhaupt noch Glauben schenken? Um die einzig valide Antwort zu finden, gilt wie immer: Praxis schlägt Theorie. Also muss man einfach mal mal ran an die Bulletten,Pardon, Bouteillen und sein eigenes Urteil fällen.

Dieser 2007 Propiedad vom Weingut Palacios Remondo zum Beispiel, wurde vom Guia Proensa mit 99 Punkten (daher die scherzhafte Anmerkung im Titel) ausgezeichnet, also genauso hoch wie etwa ein Pingus, einer der berühmtesten spanischen Weine der Neuzeit. Der Propiedad besteht aus Garnacha und Tempranillo, sowie einen kleinen Schuss Mazuelo und Graciano und wurde 14 Monate in französischen Barriques erzogen. Das Weingut Palacios Remondo ist übrigens schon länger im Besitz der Familie, wurde aber erst vor ein paar Jahren ins Portfolio des Alvaro Palacios aufgenommen. Read the rest of this entry »

Wieder mal sind einige Monate des sporadischen und unorganisierten Probierens vorüber gegangen, und so wurde es wirklich mal wieder Zeit für eine schöne, ausgedehnte Weinprobe mit viel Gelegenheit zum direkten Vergleich. Da trifft es sich gut, dass Weinliebhaber Oskar eine fröhliche Weinrunde zur spanischen Weinprobe in den Gewölbekeller des Alten Hofs in Wallau geladen hat. Im Gepäck hatte Oskar eine große Vielfalt an Flaschen, so dass die Probe einer Entdeckungsreise quer durch die spanische Weinlandschaft glich. Highlights gab es dabei nicht zu wenige, doch ich will jetzt nicht zu viel verraten. Als Bewertungssystem habe ich mich für das einfache aber praktische -,+ und ++ entschieden wobei – für “unter den Erwartungen”, + für “gut, entspricht den Erwartungen” und ++ für “sehr gut, deutlich über den Erwartungen” steht. Finally I’m back home after 2 weeks of agitated travelling, and I have lots of stories to tell from my trip to Shanghai, and some more from my subsequent getaway to Paris. But let’s start time-incoherent with a blind-tasting that kicked off my weekend in Paris. I was a guest at my friend Didier’s home and, as usual, we couldn’t meet without popping a few corks. We each added a couple of bottles to this tasting and they were served to us mixed and blind by Didier’s wonderful wife Mizuki, who has developed a hand for pouring the right bottles. Of course, I mostly brought German wines, as I also know Didier has a weakness for these (one among a few) and they’re rather hard to get in France. A few weeks ago we had these 2 “island wines” with our dinner. One from Mallorca, the other from Sardinia. First the  ÀN/2 : the thought that instantly crossed my mind when I took a sip was that this represents the kind of Spanish wine that interests me most nowadays. Indeed, I somehow got bored of the traditional Rioja and Ribera stuff, which are made in such standardized ways that it gets hard to see the difference between one and another. At least that is how it seems to me and I definitely need a break of those for a few months at least. Nevertheless, I still keep some in my cellar, because I know the right moment for those will come again. And thank God they can age! Read the rest of this entry »

I’ve come across this wine a couple of times now. Posts about it have already been published here in May and July of 2008 and just recently I had it twice in a matter of only 3 months and now again I am popping a cork of this 2003 Alion from Ribera Del Duero. Of course it belongs to a category of wines that are a little controversial as it opposes aficionados of modern Spanish wines and those who prefer the more traditional ones. But somehow I believe Alion is right in between these two styles: a modern interpretation of traditional Spanish wines as to say, but not a super-extracted monster, although this verdict might also depend on drinking-circumstances.
