“I am NOT drinking any fucking Merlot!“. Nicht erst seit diesem von Miles im Film Sideways ausgeschrienen Satz hat besagte Rebsorte unter “Kennern” einen schlechten Ruf: Zuviele überdrehte und simplistische Marmeladenbomben überschwemmen seit Jahren den Weltmarkt. Eigentlich nichts erstaunliches für eine fruchtbetonte Rebsorte deren Mission es ja ist Spaßweine hervorzubringen. Doch Merlots können auch Trinkspaß auf sehr hohem Niveau bieten. Dann wird die Frucht in Seide gehüllt und mit Tiefe versehen. Elegante Spaßweine sind sie dann. Oder gar Wohlfühlweine. Ich denke dieser 0815-Beschreibung würden selbst jene Glückspilze nicht widersprechen, die schonmal in den Genuß eines Pétrus gekommen sind, dem wohl berühmtesten aller Merlot-Wein. Heute aber geht es um einen Wein, der eher die preisliche Antithese zu Pétrus darstellt. Very appealing Bordeaux Supérieur by Château Le Pin Beausoleil from the St Emilion region that is just nice to drink right now. 60% Merlot account for a very fruit-driven and voluptuous wine. No decanting needed. Ink-dark in colour and exuberant nose of dark fruit with coconut and chocolate. Kind of exotic. On the palate, full body and velvety structure with just a touch of tannin lending some caractère. Voluptuous dark fruit again here. Modern and Classic at the same time. The wine appears juicy and balanced with a nice length. A very good value at about 20 Euro. 90 Points.

Sundays can be days when you want to leave the wine in the cellar, especially because Saturday evenings can be pretty… “rough”. But if the right people come together, there’s no reason not to pull out the corkscrew. And even more so, those happen to be the days when you’re most relaxed and savour the wine as you should! A recent Sunday was such a day – we ended up drinking 3 bottles of red wine from 3 different countries.

“Idus” is the name of the second wine of Celler Vall Lach which is located in Porrera within the Priorato region. It is a Cuvée of mainly Carinena and Garnacha grapes, but also includes varieties such as Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet. Colour is dark and brilliant with great intensity. Big tears on the inside of the glass instantly remind that the label announced 15,5 % alc. Intense nose of cherries and Vanilla, but also some herbs and tar; unfortunately also a slight alcoholic tone is puncturing. After 3 hours of decanting, tannins are feeling soft on the palate. Fruit is very intense and clear of cherries, reminding a little of cherry-jam, but on the other hand it is by far not as jammy as some other modern Spanish wines. On the mid-palate a little bitter-tone is also noticeable and on the back end of the palate the alcoholic afterburner is quite strong. All in all this is not something I love really, but not truly a bad wine either, I just don’t like that strong alcohol touch.(btw I already had wines with 16% which didn’t feel alcoholic at all). Then again this could be much better with the right food match 87-89

Das Etikett mit dem Mutter-Kind Motiv sieht zwar aus als ob es mit meinem alten Bubblejet Drucker erstellt wurde, aber Hauptsache der Inhalt stimmt. Es handelt sich dabei um 50% Prieto Picudo -eine mir bis dato umbekannte Rebsorte- sowie Tempranillo und 5% Merlot, aus Castilla y Leon stammend und abgefüllt von der Grupo Galiciano. Um es vorweg zu nehmen, für unter 10 Euro ist das ein Wein so richtig nach meinem Geschmack. Read the rest of this entry »
