Read the rest of this entry »

“Midnight in Paris” Blind Tasting: The Whites

Finally I’m back home after 2 weeks of agitated travelling, and I have lots of stories to tell from my trip to Shanghai, and some more from my subsequent getaway to Paris. But let’s start time-incoherent with a blind-tasting that kicked off my weekend in Paris. I was a guest at my friend Didier’s home and, as usual, we couldn’t meet without popping a few corks. We each added a couple of bottles to this tasting and they were served to us mixed and blind by Didier’s wonderful wife Mizuki, who has developed a hand for pouring the right bottles.

IMG_9224

It’s been 2 years since I last had a bottle of Harys by Domaine du Trapadis. My verdict back then was more than positive, calling it a wine with intense aromatics, good complexity and a long finish. My only small objection was that the still somewhat present tannins might require 2 to 3 years to soften.

Southern Rhône Blind Tasting

Last week it got as good as it can get for a wine geek. Not only did our hosts Eva and Nick cook a delicious dinner, but they also complotted a superb blind tasting of “Southern Rhône Reds” for us. But there was even more to come since after that “official program”, we indulged 2 extra bottles and the surprise effect wasn’t small.
Here are the wines in the order they were tasted. We only uncovered the bottles in the end after our verdicts.
