2005 Château Boyd-Cantenac, Margaux – Update

Here’s a quick update on Château Boyd-Cantenac from Margaux out of the blockbuster vintage 2005. It’s a 3rd Grand Cru Classé which I haven’t tasted for about 3 years. My last posts about it can be found here and here.

For the occasion of a homemade steak dinner I thought it would be an appropriate bottle and a good opportunity to check on its current state. The wine has always be kind of open and I actually wondered if would ever close down for a few years. Read the rest of this entry »

Post-Blind Tasting Wines

After that parade of rather aged Italian reds, I thought it would be nice to drink something red again, but young and non-Italian, so I decanted a 2005 Chateau Boyd-Cantenac from Margaux, which I already had before and knew it would be a wine with lots of sex-appeal, rejuvenating our palates. Der Wein zum Thunfischsteak. Tolle tiefdunkle, aber leuchtende Farbe. Feine Nase nach Cassis und Teer, elegant und nicht aufdringlich, etwas Würze. Am Gaumen direkt verführerisch: Samtig weich trotz seiner Jugend, beziehungsweise mit so feinen Tanninen, dass sie gerade einen angenehmen Widerstand erzeugen. Read the rest of this entry »
