Vor kurzem hatten wir die Gelegenheit 2 Rieslinge der Lage Forster Pechstein von 2 verschiedenen Weingütern gegenüberzustellen und ganz in Ruhe über ein Wochenende zu verkosten. Zum einen den 2007er Pechstein GG des Weinguts Karl Schäfer in Bad Dürkheim und zum anderen den 2008er Pechstein G.C. vom bekannten Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf in Wachenheim an der Weinstraße, wobei das G.C. (Grand Cru) eine interne Klassifikation des Weinguts darstellt und es sich eigentlich gleichfalls um ein Großes Gewächs handelt. Eine “No-name” Flasche die über Ebay für wenig Geld erstanden wurde. Kaufargumente waren das heisse Jahr 1976, die tolle Lage Pechstein und die schiere Neugier. “No-name” auch, weil es das Weingut meines Wissens heute nicht mehr gibt.

Forst is a small winetown located inbetween Wachenheim and Deidesheim. All 3 names are well-known to wine-amateurs.

The most prestigious single-vineyards in this part of the Weinstrasse are located in Forst though, such as:

Forster Ungeheuer (which means monster, but is actually the name of a historic personality in the region), Forster Pechstein, Forster Jesuitengarten and Forster Kirchenstück.

Of course, the vineyards of Wachenheim and Deidesheim are also top sites, and winemakers would say that it is a question of taste and preference in the end, but still the sites of Forst are the most famous.
