Das Beaujolais-Gebiet hat immer noch nicht den besten Ruf. Durch die in den Fünfziger Jahren als Vermarktungs-Werkzeug ins Leben gerufenen Beaujolais-Nouveau-Kampagnen wird das gesamte Anbaugebiet immer noch für diese Kater-verusachenden Jungweine in Sippenhaft genommen, und so spielen auch die berühmten “10 Crus du Beaujolais” international kaum eine Rolle. Dabei können diese Weine aus der Rebsorte Gamay durchaus so edel und langlebig sein wie manch ein Pinot aus den burgundischen Nachbarregionen und gibt es auch eine handvoll renommierter Winzer. With the French 2009 vintage, most of the attention was attracted to Bordeaux with another so-called vintage of the century, leaving other, less expensive and definitely less pretentious regions without the focus they might have deserved.

Among these regions, the Beaujolais, ill-reputed for its annual market flooding with Beaujolais Nouveau, came up with a picture-perfect harvest that is according to many, truly worthy of the hackneyed title vintage of the century (check this report for example). Read the rest of this entry »
