The Picture above shows the “Bibliotheca Subterranea” of Schloss Johannisberg. It is the oldest wine cellar of the Rheingau region and includes one last bottle of Riesling from 1748. Visitors of Schloss Johannisberg’s recent open door event were invited to tour the estate’s cellar.

The first level of the cellar is filled with dozens of Riesling-barrels. A loud bubbling sound fills out the room as it is harvest time and young wine is just fermenting within the barrels.
