I’ll start with a riddle since on my first day in Malaysia I already had some quite unusual things I never thought I’d eat there. it was in a Japanese restaurant though. But I’m not sure anyone could guess those meals. I’ll post the pics now and the solutions later in case anyone wants to play the game.
One hint for this one: it isn’t beef.

..and this one stems from a particular type of mussel
Now the solution:
For the sashimi, I let a picture speak for itself. The taste of it was rather a bit sweet and also smokey (a bit reminiscent of “Mettwurst” for you Germans out there), thus quite interesting actually. But still, even if some cows might be quite happy we’d eat more horses instead, I think this isn’t a dish I’d like to eat on a regular basis. By the way horse butchers were quite common in Europe in the last century, and there are still some around. I didn’t know though, that it was a specialty in Japan.

The second dish was a part of this monster here which entirely fits in the tiny shell when it retracts and is called Geoduck. Doesn’t look very tempting like this does it? Didn’t taste very exciting either, very neutral actually, a bit like jellyfish.
