Sage is the fine dining restaurant within The Gardens Hotel & Resort in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I’ve had dinner there over a year ago in 2010 and don’t have many notes. Still, I thought it’d be a shame if I don’t share these pics at least.
Buckwheat noodles, Creme fraiche, Tuna and Caviar
Sea Scallop with Mesclun Salad and Provençal Vinaigrette
Smoked Duck Breast with Foie Gras and Red Wine Sauce
Fresh Mango Melba with Ricotta Ice Cream
Hazelnut Nougat Soufflé with Valrhona Chocolate Ice Cream
One thing that was a downside is the lack of expertise when it comes to wine. Even though the wine-list looks quite appealing, no-one is able to advice us on the wines it contains. the So called sommelier’s often go by the logic, the higher the price, the better the wine. But that doesn’t help much. So instead of ordering a 10 year old Burgundy one plays safe and picks a screwcap Sauvignon from Australia or New Zealand. They’re not bad wines, don’t get me wrong, but that’s a field where vast improvements can be made.
Solid Sauvignon Blanc
One for the experts: ex-Château Sociando-Mallet? So that diners know they get genuine “Château” quality? Never seen it like this on a wine-list. Maybe it’s specific to Asia, so diners can be sure they don’t buy fake bottles?
