Most of the times I had Barolo, they were older bottles of average origin, thus dispersing all the generic perfume of leaves on a forest floor with mushrooms and some rather absent fruit. Das neue Jahr braucht gute Vorsätze und natürlich auch in Sachen Wein. Mehr entdecken und Kenntnisse vertiefen sind die Stichworte für den Blind Tasting Club. Spontan fällt mir da unter anderen eine Region ein die es besonders betrifft: Das Burgund. Bisher war es für mich immer eine Region in der Überraschungen und Enttäuschungen sehr nah beinander lagen und der Preis kein guter Indikator für Qualität ist. Und auch vor kurzem konnte mir ein Corton Grand Cru der Hospices des Beaunes weder den Glanz noch die Gloria vermitteln für die er eigentlich steht. Domaine de Trévallon is somewhat of a cult-wine, a pioneer-wine, or even a rebel-wine. You could qualify it either way. It was pioneering winemaking in a region where winemaking seemed to die. It was one of the first wineries in France to ignore the appelation rules and label the bottles as Vin de Pays for having too much Cabernet in its Cuvée (50% Cabernet, 50% Syrah). And also, it was the first winery in France producing organic wine.
But the most pertinent reason for Eloi Durrbach‘s success probably lies in the hard work he puts into his vineyards. He does everything he can to achieve his vision of a good wine. Thus, appelation rules aren’t his priority. And maybe this is the way it should be.
So wie man von einem klassischen Bordeaux redet, wird auch oft vom Typus klassischer Rioja gesprochen. Doch heutzutage, so ist überall zu lesen und so habe ich es auch selbst erfahren, gibt es diesen Stil immer weniger, schreiten doch die modernen Spanier, marmeladig und holzig scheinbar unaufhaltsam voran. Nathalie und Christian Chaussard haben Domaine Le Briseau in 2002 übernommen und sich der Riege der “vin naturel” Hersteller der Loire angeschlossen.
Die Anbauprinzipien werden von einem Weinhändler wie folgt beschrieben:
All vineyard work is done according to the principles of organic viticulture (with the certification of Qualité France): no pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers are used; nettle and horsetail decoctions are sprayed on the foliage; copper is used in modest quantity (less than 5kg/HA); the vines are plowed and grass allowed to grow in the rows. In 2006, the estate started its conversion to biodynamic principles.
