Weird weird weird… a bit too weird in the end for me. I’m still trying to get a hold of what this wine is meant to be. An attempt of explanation: I assume Christophe Pacalet tried to make a natural wine that comes close to a Beaujolais Nouveau in style in order to reinterprete what Beaujolais Nouveau could be. He ironically named this wine “New Beaujolais“.
I bought this bottle out of curiosity for 14 CHF in Geneva without knowing what would await me.
The wine is very cloudy in appearance, nearly a milky red wine, but that’s not something that bothers me really.

It gets stranger with the nose: it is perfumed of freshly made apple juice with a slight cinnamon touch to it.

Not sure you would recognize it as red wine from there. But then on the palate… it still has the apple juice aromatics, with a touch of white pepper. And at the same time it is very acidic to sour. One could say that it’s meant to be a refreshing summer wine (that needs to be served ice cold), but for my own taste it’s just too sour.
Well well, hard to have a good opinion on this wine for me. But I guess we’re not meant to like any type of wine. I would be curious what others think about it.
Anways all the other wines in Château Cambon’s portfolio look tempting, maybe I should try one of those next time I have the opportunity.
