Spanish Reds Blind Tasting

After many weeks we finally gathered again for a genuine blind tasting round. This means that we agreed on a topic – Spanish Reds from the nineties on – and then covered the labels. The big guessing fun game could begin.


Our first wine was at the same time the oldest of five bottles. We all guessed that. In fact it had a rather light red colour with a slight brown hue at the edges. The 1995 Medina Del Campo from Valcruzal was at best medium bodied. Its taste was Read the rest of this entry »

2001 Dominio Lasierpe Reserva, DO Navarra


Ein vermeintlich schön gereifter Rotwein aus Navarra entpuppt sich geradezu als solcher. Die Farbe liegt zwischen brillantem Rubin und Ziegelrot. In der Nase ein leichter Vanilleeinschlag der den Holzausbau verrät, jedoch gar nicht übermäßig erscheint. Jack’s luxury Oyster Bar, NY

intimate ambiance at JLOB

When I was in NY in November I met fellow food blogger Steve for a nice dinner at Tailor’s. Since I brought my friend Jeff and Steve brought his friends Toby and Brendan we were quite a nice round of food enthusiastic diners that evening. During this evening which ended in a bar in the West Village, we found out that Brendan is a young chef holding the reins at Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar – a restaurant in the East Village.
