Another Blogger standing in line at Burger Joint in Parker Meridien Hotel, Midtown NY

Yes I know, this place has been covered by many and only most recently by Trine from Very Good Food (I think I ate there before her tough, she’s just more of a genuine live-blogger), but that’s probably the reason I had to try it out as well. Mostly positive reviews I heard about this Burger Joint, some even stating they make the best burger in the city. Read the rest of this entry »

Sushi Yasuda, New York

511

The business district of Midtown Manhattan is unsurprisingly loaded with Sushi Restaurants. Among those many places, one that stands out and which I first heard of from Luxeat and Chuckeats is Sushi Yasuda. After I had lunch at Bar Masa on my last New York visit 2 years ago, I now felt compelled to give Yasuda a try. So I went there on my own for a late lunch on a monday and luckily it wasn’t a problem to get a seat at the bar right in front of Yasuda-San, a charming and funny person who – I found out during that meal – really knows what he’s doing Read the rest of this entry »

Tacos at Tortilleria Los Hermanos in Bushwick, Brooklyn

Touchdown in NY! Finally… after 2 years of abstention. You can’t imagine how many cravings have accumulated during that time… Well, maybe you can.

But this visit was ought to be slightly different than previous times since I actually didn’t stay in Manhattan but in Bushwick, the up and coming neighbourhood of Brooklyn. And no, don’t worry, I didn’t abstain on the merits of Manhattan dining (in fact I had a few nice meals there awaiting me), but Bushwick is a florishing hood with more and more “culinarities” to discover and if Read the rest of this entry »

Bar Masa, Time Warner Centre, NY

Masa and Bar Masa are reputedly the 2 mythical sushi restaurants in New York, if not the US. I have read several times about their extremely high standards, importing fresh fish from Tokyo on a daily base, but at the same time of course I also heard about their astronomic prices. So there I was in New York, so close to Sushi heaven thinking about my probable value for money return, and I just gave myself a kick: at least once should I experience Sushi of outstanding quality. I went for lunch.

1995 Gallo Estate Cabernet, North Sonoma

A well-known rooster…

I always had, and still will have after that on bottle the image of a Gallo wine being an industrial supermarket wine.
It is so common to see this brand on the shelves everywhere, and many bring these wines to parties or gatherings, sometimes even me. The success of Gallo is based on the steady quality of industrially produced wine which evokes in each one of us the trust we can have in a brandname. Read the rest of this entry »

Random Red Wines with Oskar

IMG_2028

It was time again for a nice red wine evening. We didn’t have a real topic and gathered some random bottles of red wine from 1972 to 1997.

Here are the notes:

1972 Gigondas, Henri de Villamont

We started with this old Gigondas. Luckily we had no problem with the cork. In the glass it had a nice although slightly blurry red colour. In the nose a little age note with cellar and mushroom. On the palate, lively acidity which probably kept this wine alive. Yet it still appeared balanced and was nicely drinkable but had a rather short finish.
