Das altehrwürdige Weingut Dr. Bürklin Wolf in Wachenheim ist schon länger für seine Vorreiterrolle im biodynamischen Weinbau bekannt und zeichnet sich immer wieder durch seinen Visionärsgeist aus. Deswegen verwundert es nicht, dass es immer wieder zu vinologischen Experimenten bereit ist. Und wer zum Beispiel auf einer Flasche Ruppertsberger Hoheburg PC den kleingedruckten Zusatz “Fass 23″ auf dem Etikett findet, der hält ein solches Experiment in den Händen. What sounds a bit disconcerting for the non-connoisseur is actually a local German specialty from the Pfalz region that even statesman like Margaret Thatcher, Michail Gorbatchew, Francois Mitterand and Ronald Reagan were to indulge. In fact Germany’s former Chancellor Helmut Kohl is a big fan of the specialty and traditionnaly invited all his stateguests to a restaurant were his beloved Saumagen is celebrated with pride.

Aus dem Jahrgang 2008 hat das Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf bekannterweise eine durchgehend überzeugende Kollektion gelesen und auf die Flasche gebracht, mit -insbesondere im P.C. und G.C. Bereich- ganz beeindruckenden Weinen. Jedoch sind diese in ihren jungen Jahren natürlich noch relativ verschloßen. Der Kalkofen zum Beispiel, welcher zu den G.C. (also Grand Cru) Weinen des Guts gehört, zeigt schon einiges und wirkt animierend. Jedoch ist er zur Zeit ein eher kompakter Wein mit mineralischem Nerv: Er erinnert irgendwie an einen angespannten Muskel oder an eine geballte Faust die in sich noch etwas versteckt. Ja genau, jetzt wo ich diese Metaphern losgeworden bin, kann ich ja schlicht und einfach sagen dass der Wein schmeckt: Man spürt die pfälziche Opulenz und die Kraft, selbst wenn sie in diesem Fall irgendwie angespannt wirkt, deutlich und man weiß, dass dieser Wein nur noch besser werden kann.
So last weekend my blog turned 5 ! And actually I wouldn’t even have realized it, didn’t I flip through my archives last week way back to the first post. Anyway, so I was in Berlin for the weekend doing some sight-seeing in our lovely capital and stopped by for a quick hello at Martin’s Berlin Riesling Cup 2010 event which was just going on.
And what luck, I just arrived at the right time participating for 2 flights that contained the top 3 wines of the evening! Happy Birthday to me I thought when I left, and thanks of course to Martin who’s probably the most relaxed wine lover I know.
