For us, Riesling turned out to be a great alternative. And if you think about it, the symbolism works: freshness and juiciness stand for rejuvenation or a new beginning. Exactly what we wish for. Plus we had some nice bottles to uncork:

2 Rheingauer Lagen- Kabinette im Vergleich

Nun man könnte vielleicht auch sagen, 2 Top Lagen im Vergleich oder auch 2 Top Winzer im Vergleich. Sicher ist aber zumindest: Beide Weine entstanden im Top-Jahrgang 07 und um es schonmal vorweg zu nehmen, werden diesem auch gerecht.

One reason why I think Riesling is such a great grape is that it can take on so many different appearances. Terroir, vinifaction and vintage influence can lead the style more into one or another direction. On occasion you realize this in drastic manner when you open a bottle and you feel like it evokes some specific other region, grape or type of wine you know or think you know, and are not sure anymore about the true origin of the wine.
