Sometimes, many times actually, I am just a taker of nice labels like the next guy. Apparent creativity just makes me curious. And since I dig graffiti art as well, be it the oldschool stuff or the latest developments, I couldn’t resist when I saw this beautiful bottle in the shelves of a Stellenbosch wine store.
Oh yes, and the wine is actually a 2010 Matys by Diemersdal estate, a Sauvignon Blanc of solid quality. Nothing wrong with picking a cool label in this case!

In order to sum-up my wine experiences during my trip to Stellenbosch and the Cape Region of South Africa, here’s a list of white and red wines I enjoyed most. Some of these were already mentioned in previous postings, some others make their first appearance here.
White Wines
2010 Iona Sauvignon Blanc from Elgin. Very crisp and dry. Not much exotic fruit here which is due to the slightly cooler climate of Elgin. But still vibrant and with substance with grass and gooseberry on the fore. One that you could put away for a year. We had it at Ernie Els’ (the famous golfer) restaurant Big Easy, which I can recommend for its beautiful premises and relaxed atmosphere but also for their quality food. This bottle is a gift from my dear friend Louisa who is currently staying in South Africa in the middle of Stellenbosch wine country. When she told me on the phone that she had a great bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc for me I thought she was mistaken and surely meant Sauvignon Blanc. So now I have the bottle and this is one of the many moments in the life of a wine-lover when he realizes he doesn’t know a thing about wine.
