Wenn es um Rhône-Weine geht, mache ich immer öfter einen Bogen um die Süd-Rhône Weine. Denn diese wirken mir oft zu alkoholisch und marmeladig und stellen aus diesem Grund auch -insbesondere für manche Châteauneuf-Du-Pape-Weine – einfach ein ungünstiges PLV dar.

L’Avant-Comptoir, near place de l’Odéon
It is always a pleasure to take a dive into the Paris wine scene, also because it naturally is different than the scene in Germany and other countries. At the moment, wine bars in Paris are driven by the Vin Naturel craze and the hunger for organic and farmed produce. Our first stop (in a wine bar) on that March weekend was at L’Avant-Comptoir, this narrow, standing-only bar adjascent to Le Comptoir, Yves Camdeborde’s acclaimed restaurant and which are both located in the ground floor of his hotel, the Relais Saint-Germain. What might look a bit like a haunted mansion within the high rise buildings of Shanghai, actually is a very charming old Tudor house and represents a beautiful setting for wine and food.
For our last dinner in Shanghai I went online and made some research about what the Shanghai fine dining scene has to offer. There are a few branches of international 3 star chefs (The Pourcel twins and Boulud) which I suspected might only be less good copies of the originals. Then there are those much talked about hip restaurants such as “Mr. and Mrs Bund”, which might actually be worth a shot, but also bear a big risk for disappointment. Finally I’m back home after 2 weeks of agitated travelling, and I have lots of stories to tell from my trip to Shanghai, and some more from my subsequent getaway to Paris. But let’s start time-incoherent with a blind-tasting that kicked off my weekend in Paris. I was a guest at my friend Didier’s home and, as usual, we couldn’t meet without popping a few corks. We each added a couple of bottles to this tasting and they were served to us mixed and blind by Didier’s wonderful wife Mizuki, who has developed a hand for pouring the right bottles. Of course, I mostly brought German wines, as I also know Didier has a weakness for these (one among a few) and they’re rather hard to get in France. First of all, I seriously enjoyed the few Croatian wines I’ve tried so far, in particular the whites. And also this 2008 Korčula Island wine by the Blato 1902 cooperative was a very aromatic specimen, full of character: it is made of the autochton Pošip grape . Ein Blog-Event im Zeichen des Ecovin-Verbands
Lebt der Ecovin-Verband ein unscheinbares Dasein? Für mich anscheinend schon. Denn zwar kenne ich den Verband, das dazugehörige Logo und mit Sicherheit habe ich auch schon einige Ecovin-Weine getrunken, doch war mir nicht bewußt, dass schon etwas mehr als 200 (!) ökologisch arbeitende Weingüter Mitglied in diesem sind. Darunter namhafte wie Battenfeld-Spanier, aber vor allem eine Vielzahl an kleinen, mir unbekannten Betrieben.
Aber das könnte sich nun ändern. Denn um uns aufzuklären hat Ecovin in den letzten Tagen eine Art PR-Aktion ins Leben gerufen bei der eine Handvoll Blogger mit Wein-Probepaketen von Ecovin-Winzern versorgt wurden. Ein Angebot zu dem man schwer Nein sagen kann, vor allem wenn man dadurch per Zufallsprinzip neue Weingüter kennenlernen darf.
Und kaum hatte ich zugesagt, war auch schon das Zufalls-Packet da. Offensichtlich 3 Flaschen. Aufreißen. Rausziehen. Dann kurzes andächtiges Grübeln: Nein, Vom Weingut Schönhals hatte ich zuvor noch nie etwas gehört oder gelesen. Das trifft sich gut, denn genau auf solch eine Überraschung hatte ich gehofft.
