Gibt es überhaupt irgendeinen Wein von Alvaro Palacios, der nicht mit Parker-Punkten oder sonstigen Huldigungen überschüttet wurde? Kann man diesen ganzen Bewertungen überhaupt noch Glauben schenken? Um die einzig valide Antwort zu finden, gilt wie immer: Praxis schlägt Theorie. Also muss man einfach mal mal ran an die Bulletten,Pardon, Bouteillen und sein eigenes Urteil fällen.

Dieser 2007 Propiedad vom Weingut Palacios Remondo zum Beispiel, wurde vom Guia Proensa mit 99 Punkten (daher die scherzhafte Anmerkung im Titel) ausgezeichnet, also genauso hoch wie etwa ein Pingus, einer der berühmtesten spanischen Weine der Neuzeit. Der Propiedad besteht aus Garnacha und Tempranillo, sowie einen kleinen Schuss Mazuelo und Graciano und wurde 14 Monate in französischen Barriques erzogen. Das Weingut Palacios Remondo ist übrigens schon länger im Besitz der Familie, wurde aber erst vor ein paar Jahren ins Portfolio des Alvaro Palacios aufgenommen. Read the rest of this entry »

Andrea Farinetti, the winemaker at Giacomo Borgogno e Figli  is only 22 years old. The estate however, which his family bought in 2008, was founded back in 1761. What a contrast! And somehow all is said: at Borgogno both tradition and modernity are very important. Tradition translates through the use of big Slavonian oak casks as opposed to new, smaller Barriques and also through a very late release of the wines, as to prevent disappointment with wines that might be opened too early. On the other hand there’s modernity which probably shows in the pragmatism that each vintage demands from the winemakers and the implementation of modern findings into the vineyard work.

At the Rheingau Gourmet festival we were lucky to attend  a tasting of 8 Borgogno wines with the comments of Andrea Farinetti and his colleague from the marketing side of the estate. Ever since I lived a couple of years in Montpellier I knew about the iconic wines of the region but being a student, I rarely had the opportunity to get a taste. Mas de Daumas Gassac was one of these wines: a legend. Founder and owner Aimé Guibert built up a Grand Cru estate out of the blue – a greenfield project, as the businessman would say. He planted Cabernet vines in 1972 and with the help of some reknown oenologue,s achieved to bottle a convincing wine which the French magazine Gault Millau called ‘a Languedoc Château Lafite’ in 1982. Rüsselsheim war ja in den letzten Jahren wahrlich nicht sehr positiv in den Schlagzeilen vertreten. Schießereien in der Fußgängerzone, Fluglärm, Krise beim Autobauer Opel. Doch letztes Jahr auf einmal der kulinarische Paukenschlag: Das Restaurant Navette unter der Führung des jungen Kochs Thomas Macyszyn erhält einen Michelin Stern.

Aber schon davor, auch aufgrund der geographischen Nähe, war es schon lange mein Wunsch das Navette zu besuchen. Schön, dass es nun endlich geklappt hat. Die Handschrift von Thomas Macyszyn ist etwas anders als man es heutzutage von der “Avantgarde” gewohnt ist. Viele fruchtige Elemente finden hier ihren Platz auf dem Teller: Geschmacklich eine riskanter Hochseilakt. Doch wo andere schnell ins kitschige rutschen, gelingen im Navette harmonische Kreationen, die für Frohsinn und Abwechslung sorgen.
