Recent Blog Reads – Nov/Dec 2011

As you might have guessed already by reading the title, I decided to start a new category of postings entitled “Recent Reads” featuring links to other blog’s postings that attracted my attention. Of course this will be useful for myself in the first place, helping me to find an article that I’ve been reading when I need to read it again. But I guess this might also be of interest for the wider blogosphere, pherhaps promoting blog posts that deserve much more attention.

Naturally, as it kind of is the character of  this blog, these links will most certainly include posts written in various languages and covering topics that are either fine-dining- or wine-related, but could also tangent to various other fields. Here we go.

Fellow blogger Martin of BerlinKitchen had the opportunity to taste a few of Olivier Bernstein‘s acclaimed Burgundies and even met the winemaker, pardon, the “micro-négociant” himself. Here are his impressions.

Panos Kakaviatos of Connections to wine reviewed Xenia Theodotou Schneider’s comprehensive guide to Cypriot wines. According to its author, Cyprus could be the next big thing in global wine trends. Apparently some of their many autochton varieties such as, Maratheftiko or Xinisteri have great potential. I’ll be on the watch!

Pinot-lover Barry, a great defender and ambassador for German Pinot Noir, who might also be happy about the results of a recent Pinot-tasting in London, put a Spätburgunder from the Ahr into a blind-tasting that kicked some Burgundy’s ass!

Luxeat’s Aiste never gets tired of travelling and recently reported about her visit at legendary Tokyo sushi restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro Ginza which is located in one of the subway stations of the metropolis. Jiro Ono, the legendary chef, and his son Yoshikazu Ono also are the subject of current movie relaese Jiro dreams of sushi which might become a must-watch for every foodie on this planet.
