Sushi Yasuda, New York

The business district of Midtown Manhattan is unsurprisingly loaded with Sushi Restaurants. Among those many places, one that stands out and which I first heard of from Luxeat and Chuckeats is Sushi Yasuda. After I had lunch at Bar Masa on my last New York visit 2 years ago, I now felt compelled to give Yasuda a try. So I went there on my own for a late lunch on a monday and luckily it wasn’t a problem to get a seat at the bar right in front of Yasuda-San, a charming and funny person who – I found out during that meal – really knows what he’s doing Read the rest of this entry »

Tacos at Tortilleria Los Hermanos in Bushwick, Brooklyn

Touchdown in NY! Finally… after 2 years of abstention. You can’t imagine how many cravings have accumulated during that time… Well, maybe you can.

Mast Brothers Chocolate Factory, Brooklyn

Unbenannt

While surfing through various wine and food pages this afternoon, I stumbled on this beautiful photo report of the Mast Brothers Chocolate Factory in Brooklyn, New York. They claim to be New York’s only “bean to bar” chocolate manufacturers – meaning that they process the whole chocolate beans at first in order to extract the precious cocoa butter before they confect chocolate specialties.
Tom Selby’s pictures capture the unique work atmosphere at their factory in a nearly mystical way. You would nearly have the impression they’re from a past century where passion, talent and experience were the essential success factors and not some high tech machines from our modern times. Of course the long beards and stoic expression of the 2 brothers inevitably fit into such a picture.
But whatever way those photos are being interpreted – they definitely catch one’s attention.

intimate ambiance at JLOB

When I was in NY in November I met fellow food blogger Steve for a nice dinner at Tailor’s. Since I brought my friend Jeff and Steve brought his friends Toby and Brendan we were quite a nice round of food enthusiastic diners that evening. During this evening which ended in a bar in the West Village, we found out that Brendan is a young chef holding the reins at Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar – a restaurant in the East Village.
