Gästehaus Klaus Erfort *** – Perfection in Saarbrücken

Gästehaus Klaus Erfort is maybe not located in the middle of the most fantastic neighbourhood of Saarbrücken. But, stuck in between a tenement and a gas station one finds a beautiful white mansion with a modern extension on the side accomodating the kitchen. From the street, one can observe the chefs through a glass window. Once we passed the entrance, we were directed to the back of the mansion where a quite unique terrasse is located. There you have the most beautiful view on a huge garden with endless lawn and a tiny pavilion on the side. Quite a contrast to the street side of the house and a perfect setting for apéritifs. First Growths 2008: Ode to Rheingau!

Once again I had the opportunity to attend a First Growth presentation of VDP; this time within the locality of Frankfurt Cabaret and Michelin-starred restaurant Tigerpalast. The represented regions were Rheingau, Franconia and Baden. I predominantly focused on the Rheingau trying to get a thorough view on the 2008 vintage there. Read the rest of this entry »

2007 Riesling Pur Mineral, Weingut Rudolf Fürst, Franken

The “Pur Mineral” is one of the basic Rieslings of the very well known Fürst Estate from Franken (Franconia). Its name obviously suggests a very mineral wine and the label was appealing enough for me to give it a try. First of all, the color is rather pale, but personally I don’t see color as such an important matter to rate, unless it is shockingly unnatural. I only take it as a hint indicating the wine’s weight or maybe for guessing the varietal or the origin of the wine in case of a blind tasting. Read the rest of this entry »
