2008 Chablis “Terroir de Chichée”, Patrick Piuze

On a recent online-shopping raid I stumbled upon the fancy-looking wines of Patrick Piuze, a Canadian who incidently found his way into winemaking after an inspiring encounter with Marc Chapoutier. As a young man he then took a chance and worked in several chais around the world before coming back to Canada for opening a wine bar. After 2 years of that he finally joined Olivier Leflaive in Burgundy for whom he would soon oversee Chablis-making. A few winemaking-jobs later he finally decides to settle as an independent négociant, a buyer of grapes. Read the rest of this entry »

2007 Gamay “Les Romaines”, Frères Dutruy, Vaud

We all know Gamay as the grape of Beaujolais, for which this region occupies a quasi monopolistic role. Nonetheless there are other wine regions, suprising ones, that grow this underrepresented varietal.

Weinsinn Restaurant und Weinbar, Frankfurt

Endlich habe ich dem Weinsinn einen längst hinfälligen Besuch abstatten können. Nachdem vor ein paar Monaten André Rickert als neuer Küchenchef anfing, gab es so einige Lobeshymnen auf das gute Essen. High End Food zum Beispiel freute sich, dass die Bistronomie Welle, die zur Zeit in Paris Ihre Hochzeit erlebt, nun endlich auch in Deutschland angekommen ist und mit dem Weinsinn einen erstklassigen Vertreter gefunden hat.
Dem kann ich nur beipflichten! Leider war ich nur mit meiner Handykamera unterwegs und die Bilder sind dadurch von sehr schlechter Qualität. Aber für ein kleines Restaurant-Telegram reicht das allemal. In Zukunft werde ich bestimmt auch detailreicher berichten. Read the rest of this entry »

Food and Wine Pairing: Chicken Tikka Masala with Jura wine

When I told my Jura-expert and vimpressionist friend Didier that I was invited for a  homemade curry for dinner he instantly claimed “well you know what you have to drink then !?”. While I then thought of Riesling he responded that the best possible match with curry is a wine from the Jura region of France, you know, these Savagnins which are slightly oxydized.
